Ukraine's metal industry decreased the production of cast iron, steel and rolled steel by 33-38% in January-March 2009 compared with the same period in 2008.

Thus the production of rolled steel decreased by 33%, to 6.206 million tonnes, steel by 38%, to 6.820 million tonnes, cast iron by 35%, to 5.912 million tonnes, the Ministry of Industrial Policy of Ukraine said.

Tube production went down by 44%, to 330,000 tonnes, metalware by 54%, to 46,000 tonnes.
