The World Bank's senior economist Ruslan Piontkovsky has predicted that Ukraine's GDP will go down by 9% in 2009, while inflation will reach 16.4%. The previous forecast made in December 2008 was more optimistic: GDP 4% down, inflation 13.6% up.
The Ukrainian GDP grew by 2.1% in 2008.
Meanwhile, the Ukrainian government expects the GDP to grow by 0.4%, inflation to slow down to 9.5%.
